Handle ntfs drives easily

- Debian and Arch did not have any issues with ntfs formatted external drives - Some Ubuntu users need to verify, especially on the following:

Those removable drives, which has been removed before "Safe to remove" confirmation from a Windows platform OS, fail to get automatically mounted.

Be able to easily format drives from file managers

Step 1 Bug filed for nautilus

It is already implemented in gnome-disk-utility

But we need to ask for ntfs support.

We will need to add 'Format' to the menu. Currently it has 'Mount' or 'Unmount', 'Eject' and 'Safely Remove'. When clicked on format, we will have to offer an option to choose a desired file system, as a first step we should offer file systems available in the system, as an advanced use case we could offer to install new file systems.

Then it should have a tick box for quick format, that should be enabled by default.

Once we get all the options we should run mkfs with given option with given options. We should give visual progress of the process and should find out if mkfs has any apis. Adding APIs to mkfs, if it is not there already can be another project.

Communicate to newbie users with a level of complexity easy for them to understand.

{proposed by Bipin kumar}

How ever, this might not be very practical. Developers are usually accustomed directly dealing with code, than GUI way of doing things. Therefore: Let there be facilitators who communicate with the non-techie user in a very productive way. Thus the user will be more ready to continue as a FLOSS user.

Platform for communication between developers and users and various aspects

Preferred media: Internet Wiki / Mailing lists, or any other which allows archiving of topics.

Guide lines on Mailing List best practices: http://kandalaya.org/guidelines.html http://mashable.com/2009/12/21/must-read-ebooks/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+Mashable+(Mashable) http://artofcommunityonline.org/

Issues: Is it preferred to send RTF/HTML/Multimedia rich messages to mailing lists? A compromise had to be made between readability and universal Compatibility. Data heavy messages could pose problems when sufficient bandwidth is not available. RTF/HTML also tend to distract when used carelessly.

Extensive Right click menus [context menus] with the following options:

{Praveen A ....}

   4c)Memmory release

Extensive support for the differentially abled

{Jinesh KJ..}:

   5b) Image to speach

Unified icons -- Image overlays and text

( A standardization : recommended for ease of learners)

Extensive interactive tool tips in small, commited windows, which recognizes context[interacting with the programme/OS]

Supported with images , audio and video.

Special interpreter programme which crawls through settings files (eg: .ini files) and displays information,Displays changeable settings in a graphical manner

Eg: Reads OS Boot order from grub.lst and presents the order in GUI, settings changeable from interface.

A Clean Linux Uninstallation programme

A clean Linux Uninstallation program, which allows any other existing OS to load. No MBR manipulations afterwards should be necessary

There was some discussions in CoFSUG list about it, I will dig it up Pravs 16:08, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Extensive fine tuneability of the OS.

All gnu/linux distributions are customizable to a great extent--Provided the user knows how to. If a user finds a need for customising his installation and he is not able to do it,he can contact the mailing list/support group/community.

Examples:

Add keyboard shortcuts. Write short scripts for regular tasks(Like the one written for asianet logins) Change Window manager/DE for memory friendliness etc.. ...

Training multimedia which appears by default after 1st login

Add a training multimedia on bug reporting, with very attractive launch icon in boot menu and Desktop by default.(later be switched off)

Best bug reporter gets ice creams, steam engines or missiles

All developers gets ( choices plees... :) )

More BOOT OPTIONS

Boot option includes the following options along with administrator/user a)I wanna try it, with all possible assistance inbuilt (a short name for it...pls) A dialogue offers the userto connect to an IRC/ or mailing list which is near his area.(only after network is verified OK.) this applet should search for mailing list based on similiarity of topic / geographical nearness.

14b) Boot next time, discarding all changes made in current login.(let the user twaek, but not suffer consequences)

GAME MODE

Let an option be there to release maximum possible OS/backgruond routine process resources. for a "Game/Video reneder" mode. On single click, and return to full fledged mode.[inspired by Game mode in antivirus softwares]

BUY PATENTS

Constitute a platform to accumulate money, inorder to buy "user friendliness"patents from the propreitory developers. Cant just pirate on them and let them go to hell.they have families.

FORUM WEB CRAWLER/SPIDER

I recently saw an image crawler in web, which indexes only CC/GPL images. Designing one for forum crawling would be great. i hope its already there

17a) men should be able to rank discussions, and post consolidations.

Narendra Sisodaya has listed a lot of changes, in his SchoolOS project. like Gobotype Filesystem, and more
